DREAM-LAND: THE COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS DIGITISED

Dream-Land is an interactive video game environment emulating a digitised collective unconscious. The 3D world was constructed using photogrammetry scans of real-world architecture and landscapes, assembled into a surreal, dreamlike environment using Adobe Dimension.

Developed in collaboration with a games developer, the world was transformed into an immersive, navigable experience, featuring animated 3D-scanned fashion models that guide and inhabit the digital space.

The distorted aesthetic draws on principles of absurdism and deliberate β€˜bad taste’, using glitch and fragmentation as stylistic tools to mirror the disorienting logic of dreams. References include Alice in Wonderland and Edgar Allan Poe’s Dream-Land, reimagined through a lens shaped by internet ephemera and subcultural identity.

Collaborators included musicians working with GrimesAI stems, and the meme-based Instagram account @menstrualcramps666, intersecting fashion, online culture and collective imagination.

The conceptual foundation was informed by research into emerging trends and behavioural insights on platforms such as WGSN, with a focus on the evolving purpose of digital worlds. Rather than designing solely for commerce or mass appeal, Dream-Land proposes that immersive environments should prioritise glimmers, humour, niche expression and play.
